Usually this is because the book I am reading isn’t very good, but on this occasion the reason is because I got a kitten and am spending most of my free time looking at her.
Today I finished reading ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and have to say, it is a book I wish I had read a long time ago. I don’t really enjoy feeling angry about and full of guilt about the fact that I’m white but I do think it’s something I should definitely feel on occasion.
When I read ‘The Help’ it made me shocked about how recent all of the American white supremacy stuff happened. Even after reading ‘The Help’ While reading ‘To Kill a Mockingbird, I imagined it being set in the late 19th Century and it was until they mentioned Hitler in the last third of the book that I realised how recently this was set. It’s really grim how recently colour was such an issue and with recent events how far there is to go.
There isn’t a lot to laugh about with this book, though there is the odd humorous bit, it’s just a really good book.
I rate this book 5 Mockingbirds
